myFICO has reached a major milestone - 20 years of providing FICO Scores to consumers.
FICO invites you to celebrate a major milestone with us—20 years of helping people better understand credit and enrich their lives. With the launch of myFICO.com on March 19, 2001, U.S. consumers had direct access to their FICO® Score and a detailed FICO® Score explanation for the first time ever.
Over these 20 years, millions of FICO® Scores and timely credit bureau data and score change alerts have helped millions of myFICO members become more informed of their credit standing and their financial health.
By helping ordinary people see how lenders may view their credit risk, myFICO forever changed the consumer's role in the lending process. Before myFICO, most consumers went into the lending process blind—many didn't know or understand their credit rating and had limited insight into what impacted their FICO® Scores or financial health.
With the arrival of myFICO, consumers gained access to information lenders used to decide if they would extend credit and under what terms. FICO was at the forefront of this transparency revolution. Since then, myFICO has continued evolving with enhanced features like the FICO® Score Simulator, which helps consumers understand how future credit choices may impact their FICO Scores. These additional features have helped to demystify credit for everyday Americans.
Over the past 20 years, in addition to myFICO, FICO has become a trusted source for consumer credit information through additional consumer programs. Additional consumer programs have provided consumers access to their FICO® Scores, such as FICO® Score Open Access for lending partners and credit and financial counseling providers, to Score a Better Future seminars that help consumers build a better understanding of FICO Scores.
Boy, how time flies. I was thrilled to lead that initial effort of bringing FICO® Scores directly to consumers and I am excited to see what new credit educational tools and solutions MyFICO will bring in the next 20 years to help empower and enrich people's lives.
